My Twitter Clients

I am frequently asked what Twitter clients I am using and which ones I would recommend. This is a somewhat tricky question concerning the recommendation as it depends on a number of factors, such as platform, personal preference and requirements. In summary, I am actively using 7 clients right now but keep an eye on some other applications for possible future use.

My primary means of tweeting are Microsoft Windows desktops (both 2000 and XP). There I use a combination of browser-based (web sites) and Adobe Air (platform) clients. I also have a Windows Mobile 5 smartphone to tweet while on the road.

Browser

  • Hootsuite is my main web application as I use it exclusively to create and track links as well as schedule tweets for delayed publication which sometimes is necessary as I work in different timezones.
  • Seesmic Web App is a fine tool when I need a simple interface for temporary use such as while visiting friends and using their computer.
  • CoTweet is a great business environment as it allows the combination of multiple accounts and agents.
  • TwitPic is the image hosting service for Twitter where I upload from both web browsers and mobile applications.
  • Twitter’s own web site remains a backup option to tweet and a way to check out Twitter profiles.

Platform

  • TweetDeck is my primary application and no matter office or home, there’s always a computer somewhere running it.

Mobile

  • moTweets is an excellent mobile application supporting all Twitter functions, multiple accounts, geo-location, and uploads to TwitPic.
